The first Green Guide was published in 2008 by the association Green Liberty. It was the first publication in Latvia to explain how our actions in various areas of life impact the environment, the effects of our consumption on the world, and how we can adopt a greener and more socially responsible lifestyle. The small, green booklet found its way into many people's hands, and for at least some, it changed their perspective on the world and deepened their understanding of a sustainable lifestyle.

Today, we see that people in Latvia are increasingly interested in the origin of products, paying attention to how they are made, trying to sort waste, and even reduce its volume. Fairtrade is no longer an unfamiliar term, and social entrepreneurship is becoming more active. However, the circle of environmentally conscious individuals—each at their own shade of green—remains narrow, and our message has yet to reach the majority of society.

Therefore, as part of the LIFE Waste to Resources IP project, the Green Guide has been updated and expanded to provide answers and the latest information on how to live sustainably, socially responsibly, and eco-friendly. This guide will be useful both for those already living a green lifestyle and for those asking for the first time where their food comes from or why clothing can be so cheap. It may seem overwhelming, and it’s true that no one person can implement all of it at once. Yet, while individuals can take small steps, together we can achieve much more. This guide encourages active participation in fostering greater societal change by joining public movements and holding decision-makers accountable.
