Two weeks have passed since the start of the "My Sea" Green Expedition, and monitoring work has already been completed for half of the 44 marine litter monitoring sites. Until August 12th, anyone interested can still join the expedition by choosing a segment that suits their interests, preferences, and availability.
Over the course of a month, from July 13th to August 13th, the Latvian coastline is being traversed, covering approximately 500 kilometers from the Estonian to the Lithuanian border.
Jānis Ulme, head of the Environmental Education Fund and the "My Sea" program, stated: “Having already covered half the distance, we remain hopeful that this year we can finally announce results with more positive news about coastal pollution on Latvia’s beaches. However, challenges and issues still remain. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has joined the expedition, helping to carry out the numerous monitoring tasks and joyfully overcoming the sometimes challenging natural elements together.”
During the expedition, participants have the opportunity to explore the coast and the sea by joining classes and activities led by nature experts, as well as to gain a real understanding of the coastal pollution situation. Various experts will join in the upcoming segments, including Andris Lelis from the search unit “Legion,” environmental guide Andris Maisiņš, and Ints Mednis, ranger at the Pape Nature Park. The expedition also features various events.
This week, on August 2nd, starting at 1:00 PM, there will be a creative workshop, musical concert, movie night, and other activities at the Oviši Lighthouse.
