On Wednesday, March 26, Latvia’s leading household waste management company, “CleanR,” will open the most modern automated sorted waste collection site in Latvia, located in Riga, at 5b Vietalvas Street, the company’s management informs.
The opening event of the site will take place on Wednesday, March 26, at 10:00 AM in Riga, at 5b Vietalvas Street, with the presence of “CleanR” management, representatives of the Ministry of Climate and Energy, the Riga City Council, and non-governmental organizations, as well as other invited guests.
“We have both modernized and expanded the site – it now covers an area of 1,000 m², and wherever it was practical, we have introduced automation. For example, in the area where paid waste is accepted, scales have been installed that automatically weigh the delivered waste and calculate the corresponding fee in the system, making the process convenient for customers,” says Valerijs Stankevičs, Chairman of the Board of “CleanR.”
He added that this site could serve as a model for other similar waste collection sites, as great effort has been made to ensure that people can easily navigate and understand how to sort waste correctly.
For example, an interactive guide is located at the entrance – a screen displays information about container types, a map showing their locations within the site, and sorting possibilities, as well as details on what can and cannot be disposed of in each container. This information is also displayed on digital screens above the respective containers.
Event participants will have the opportunity to explore the specially equipped site in person and evaluate the sorting options that all Riga residents will be able to use daily, as well as observe the waste sorting center in operation.
In total, the site will allow for the disposal of at least 30 different categories of separately collected waste. Additionally, underground containers have been installed in the area, and a demonstration of the underground container emptying process is planned during the event.
Waste flow will be recorded in a new electronic accounting system, which is connected to other systems (websites, electronic catalogs, waste management systems, etc.). This sustainable solution will eliminate the need for paper documentation maintenance, storage, and archiving, saving resources and protecting the environment.
The modernized sorted waste collection site will provide Riga residents with a convenient, responsible, and safe way to dispose of various types of sorted waste – including electrical and electronic equipment waste, bulky waste, biological waste, textiles, and hazardous waste.
Private individuals will be able to dispose of the following waste free of charge at the sorting site:
In unlimited quantities: paper and cardboard, glass, wood, plastic and metal packaging, batteries and accumulators, solar panels, and intact electrical appliances.
In limited quantities: paint and varnish waste, oils, oil filters, organic solvents, fluorescent lamps and bulbs, window glass, and four passenger car tires per year.
Legal entities will be able to dispose of the following waste for a fee: fluorescent bulbs, batteries and accumulators, paint and varnish waste, oils, oil filters, organic solvents, tires, bulky and construction waste by weight, and biodegradable waste by volume.
