Residents can conveniently and quickly get rid of construction debris and bulky waste

06.12.2023

The waste management company "CleanR" has introduced a new and innovative service, offering residents a convenient, fast and legal way to get rid of excess mattresses, sofas, construction materials and even piles of autumn leaves, by using the self-service portal or mobile app manai.videi.lv, informs Liene Rumpane, head of company's Household Waste Management Department.

In Manai.vide.lv one can request disposal of bulky and construction waste or, if the quantity is small, residents can deliver waste by themselves to one of more than 2,100 addresses in Riga, choosing the closest point. Such an opportunity is being offered for the first time in Latvia, the improvement of the service will be continued based on the results of the pilot project. This functionality of Manai.vide.lv has been developed within the framework of the LIFE program's integrated project "LIFE Waste To Resources IP”, project No. LIFE20 IPE/LV/000014.

"According to the survey conducted by the research centre SKDS on construction waste management, 67% of residents have carried out house repair or construction work in the last five years, in such way creating some amount of construction waste. Residents often state that they do not know what to do with bulky waste and construction debris, so waste disposal is entrusted to unlicensed operators, who leave this waste in the forest or meadow, or this waste is disposed in a household waste container or left next to it. This should definitely not be done, because, firstly, there may be environmentally hazardous waste among the construction debris, and secondly, the person may be fined. Bulky and construction waste is the responsibility of its creator,” says Rumpane.

She points out that construction waste should also be sorted, thus reducing expenses for its disposal. In the above-mentioned survey, 61% of the respondents indicated that the most common waste during repairs was cardboard and paper, as well as polyethylene films and timber. All these types of waste can be disposed in sorted waste containers and, if sorted correctly, they can be recycled. By sorting construction waste the total amount of construction debris will decrease and, accordingly, the fee for its disposal as well.

By using manai.vide.lv or mobile app, residents can get rid of other construction and bulky waste - from mattresses, wardrobes, beds, tiles, concrete, granite, sinks, toilet bowls, also from used car tires or piles of fallen autumn leaves etc. By selecting specific type, quantity and size of waste, the system will automatically calculate total amount and service fee. Also, the customer can indicate the most convenient day for the waste disposal.

An average of 160,000 tons of waste is disposed in the "Nomales" waste sorting area during one year period - construction debris, bulky waste, timber, glass, asphalt etc. Half of it is construction waste, and about 80% of construction waste, such as gravel, sand, timber, stone shiver, plastic, cardboard, is used for recycling. Waste that cannot be recycled ends up in waste disposal landfills.

Manai.videi.lv offers various services so that customers can solve all issues related to waste management remotely, there is also an e-store section, where, for example, Big bags can be purchased for the disposal of various type of waste.
