To discuss current developments in packaging management and share practical solutions for more sustainable packaging circulation in Latvia, the annual seminar “Sustainable Packaging 2026”, organised by Latvijas Zaļais punkts, will take place on 9 April from 10:00 to 15:00 at the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU) in Jelgava, Lielā iela 2. The event is organised in cooperation with LBTU and the Latvian Packaging Association (LIA), bringing together companies, manufacturers, packaging developers, municipal representatives, and industry experts.
At the seminar, presentations will be delivered by the Deputy State Secretary for Environmental Policy at the Ministry of Climate and Energy, Ph.D. Rudīte Vesere; Leading Researcher at LBTU and Head of the Technology and Knowledge Transfer Centre, Dr. sc. ing. Sandra Muižniece-Brasava; representative of the development team of the informational material “Roadmap Towards a Society Without Plastic Pollution 2030”, Natālija Cudečka-Puriņa, and other experts. The programme will also include a presentation dedicated to packaging design, led by Maija Rozenfelde, Head of the Graphic Design Department at the Art Academy of Latvia and Creative Director of KID.
This year’s main seminar theme will be the European Union Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and its practical impact on business operations. The seminar will explain how companies can prepare in advance for upcoming changes by reviewing packaging solutions, assessing opportunities to reduce packaging volume, and ensuring designs suitable for recycling. The importance of information and data on materials used and labelling will also be highlighted, enabling companies to demonstrate compliance with requirements and plan necessary adjustments within supply chains.
The programme will provide insights into both upcoming regulatory changes and international experience that supports the development of packaging designed for recycling. Participants will also be introduced to the concept of the informational material “Roadmap Towards a Society Without Plastic Pollution 2030”, currently being developed within the EU LIFE project (LIFE20 IPE/LV/000014), outlining its directions and the role of stakeholders in achieving common goals. The seminar will conclude with a discussion on the pathway to packaging recyclability, focusing on business readiness, support needs during the transition period, and the impact of packaging changes on product circulation and consumer experience.
Interested participants are invited to register for the event by 2 April via the registration form HERE. Participation in the seminar is free of charge.
