From November 3 to 9, Action Days will take place throughout Latvia for the thirteenth year in a row, organized within the framework of the LIFE project “From Waste to Resources.” This year’s campaign slogan — “Nothing in Excess – More Joy!” — invites everyone to reflect on their daily habits and find joy in simplicity, responsible consumption, and a respectful attitude toward the environment.
Action Days in Latvia and around the world have become a tradition that, every November, brings together young people, educators, and the wider public to take collective action for the planet. The campaign was first launched in 2012 and has since become an important public engagement event in environmental education. Each year, Eco-Schools and other educational institutions across Latvia organize week-long activities to draw attention to pressing environmental issues and encourage practical changes within their schools and communities.
Daniel Trukšāns, Head of the Eco-Schools Program in Latvia:
“Action Days are a great starting point for the changes we need. This year, we want to encourage everyone to think about what they could give up or do differently in their daily lives so that both we and the planet benefit. The less we impact the planet, the more resources and favorable conditions remain for our lives — in other words, nothing in excess, more joy!”

This year’s Action Days particularly highlight the importance of sustainable development and responsible action in our daily lives. We are living in a time when climate change, the loss of biodiversity, and environmental pollution have become serious global challenges. Therefore, it is essential to reflect on our relationship with the planet — how we use resources, what habits we practice, and what kind of environment we will leave for future generations.
The Eco-Schools Program is one of the most comprehensive and popular approaches to environmental education in the world. In Latvia, more than 200 educational institutions — from preschools to universities — currently participate in the program, while globally, it involves 48,700 educational institutions across 101 countries. The program invites any educational institution willing to commit long-term to addressing environmental protection and sustainable development issues. Schools can participate even without applying for official Eco-School status — simply by joining the program’s environmental education activities such as campaigns, contests, training sessions, experience exchanges, and forums.
Participation in the Eco-Schools Program brings valuable benefits not only to the educational institution itself but also to municipalities, as the program actively promotes public involvement in environmental management alongside its other environmental education goals.
