The Second Steering Group meeting of the LIFE Waste to Resources IP project took place yesterday, on 25 May, and it brought together the LIFE Waste to Resources IP project managers and their representatives to ensure that the progress of the project is monitored in line with the planned outcomes.

The meeting was opened by the Head of the Steering Group - Mr Andris Ķēniņš, Deputy State Secretary for Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, who stressed that "in the last six months we have been implementing the preparatory activities of the project with great ambition, partners have been working intensively on campaigns, public events, seminars and discussions. And this is the moment when the project becomes more and more visible in the public space."
The meeting was continued by LIFE Waste to Resources IP Project Manager Alise Vecozola, who talked about the project's progress and current developments. Project coordinator, Ms Solvita Studāne presented the financial issues and progress so far. To date, around €1.7 million of the €15 million budget for the project has been spent.
During the meeting, Mr Gints Miķelsons, Head of the Latvian Construction Association, shared a presentation on the work done so far within the activity "Preparatory work for the development of recycled building materials circulation system". On 14 June, the Latvian Construction Association will organise a seminar "Sustainable Transformation of (Building) Materials", which aims to deepen knowledge and understanding of circular economy principles in real estate development, design and construction, including the use of sustainable building products, in cooperation with all the stakeholders involved in construction - clients, designers and suppliers.

Ms Dace Jansone-Vēvere, leading expert of the LIFE Integrated Project at the State Environmental Service, shared a presentation on the report "Packaging Data Flow in Latvia. Insight in the accomplished work, relevant observations".
The meeting was closed by Mr Armands Skutelis, Production Manager of the plastic packaging recycling plant the LLC (SIA) "Nordic Plast", the new partner of the environmental resource management group of companies JSC (AS) “Eco Baltia”, who presented the history of the company and its development, as well as outlined future plans. Within the framework of the project, the company is setting up an accredited laboratory to study the composition, recyclability and volume of plastics on the Latvian market.
