Hyrogas has signed a cooperation agreement with the Korean company Hyojun Precision

13.02.2025

On February 3, 2024, Hyrogas signed a cooperation agreement with the Korean company Hyojun Precision for the further development and commercialization of Hyrogas’s innovative gasification technology. The signing ceremony was also attended by representatives of the Korean press. Here is how the signing of this agreement was reflected in the Korean media.

Below is a translation of the article from Korean:

Local SMEs will produce "Zero Carbon" energy technologies on an industrial scale.

A pioneer in the global eco-friendly market Chairman Kim Young-Ju of Hyojun Precision Co., Ltd. is developing carbon-neutral energy innovations in collaboration with Hyrogas.

Domestic small and medium-sized enterprises are ready to change the landscape of the global carbon neutral market. Hyojun Precision, headquartered in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, Chairman Kim Young-Ju decided to mass-produce the next-generation 'Net Zero' energy technology in Korea by joining hands with European energy technology leader Hyrogas. On February 3, the two companies signed an MOU and announced plans to localize eco-friendly gasification facilities that minimize carbon emissions and expand them into the global market.

This agreement is noteworthy in that it goes beyond simple technology introduction and creates a structure in which domestic small and medium-sized enterprises produce world-class carbon reduction technologies and export them overseas. It is expected to be an important opportunity to enhance the competitiveness of the domestic eco-friendly energy industry in line with the government’s carbon neutrality policy.

Hyrogas is a company that has developed technology to convert waste and biomass into high-efficiency syngas with support from the European Union (EU) LIFE program. This technology, which drastically reduces carbon emissions compared to existing fossil fuels, is considered a key technology for achieving the carbon net zero goal.

Hyrogas' gasification technology features ▲high-efficiency thermal decomposition using high-temperature steam ▲minimized carbon dioxide emissions ▲low-cost, high-efficiency energy conversion. While existing gasification technologies had problems with high fuel consumption and byproduct generation, Hyrogas' technology has dramatically improved these issues, making environmentally friendly energy production possible.

Hyojun Precision plans to build an automated production line based on its own manufacturing capabilities to enable mass production of this technology in Korea, apply a state-of-the-art sensor-based monitoring system, and combine it with carbon capture and storage technology (CCUS). Through this, it plans to lay the foundation for Korea to play a leading role in the global eco-friendly energy industry.

Through this collaboration, Hyojun Precision plans to modularize Hyrogas’ technology into small (1 ton), medium (3 ton), and large (5 ton) sized gasification facilities to provide various customer-tailored solutions. In particular, the mass production system to be built in Korea will be operated as an automated production method that incorporates cutting-edge technologies such as ▲digital twin ▲predictive maintenance ▲high-efficiency dust collection technology ▲odor removal system.

As a commercial zero-gas facility of TRL8 (Technology Readiness Level 8) level is built in Korea, Hyosung Precision is expected to secure competitiveness in the global eco-friendly energy market and begin full-scale advancement into major markets such as Europe, Asia, and the United States.

The gasification facility developed through this agreement is expected to be applied in various industrial fields.

Power generation: Supplying power to the local grid through a high-efficiency turbine power generation system using syngas as fuel.

Industrial energy source: Used as an eco-friendly fuel to replace fossil fuels in power plants and industrial processes.

Chemical industry application: Converting synthesis gas into high value-added chemical raw materials such as methanol and ammonia.

Local energy self-sufficiency: application to small-scale local heating and heat supply systems, building an eco-friendly energy model.

Chairman Kim Young-Ju of Hyojun Precision Co., Ltd. expressed strong ambitions, saying, “Through our collaboration with Hyrogas, we will mass-produce sustainable energy technologies and supply them to the global market, thereby setting a new standard for the eco-friendly energy industry and making the world aware of the excellence of Korean manufacturing technology.”

Valdis Bisters, CEO of Hyrogas, also said “Through our collaboration with Hyojun Precision, our technology will be commercially utilized all over the world. This collaboration will be an important opportunity to change the paradigm of energy technology for carbon neutrality”.

As the government is actively promoting policies to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the collaboration between Hyojun Precision and Hygoas will go beyond simple technology introduction and serve as an important foundation for enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic eco-friendly energy industry and allowing Korea to play a leading role in the global carbon-neutral market. Attention is focused on whether domestic small and medium-sized enterprises will be able to lead new changes in the global carbon-neutral market.
