To inform about the upcoming changes in plastic packaging management starting from July 1st this year and to explain potential solutions for promoting packaging recyclability, "Latvijas Zaļais punkts" is organizing a seminar "Sustainable Packaging: From Design to Recycling 2024," which will take place on April 24th this year from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM in the Aula of the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LBTU), at 2 Lielā Street, Jelgava.
In the first part of the event, Rudīte Vesere, Acting Deputy State Secretary for Environmental Protection at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MEPRD) and Director of the Environmental Protection Department, will discuss the upcoming changes in Latvia to promote packaging recyclability and sustainability. Dr. Sandra Muižniece-Brasava, Head of the Technology and Knowledge Transfer Department at LBTU, will present research data on packaging sustainability in retail in Latvia. Kaspars Kļavenieks, a waste management expert from LLC "Geo Consultants," will present a study on the composition and quantity of plastic products offered in the Latvian market. Additionally, Ph.D. Ilze Laukalēja-Broka from LBTU and Kristīne Geidāne, Quality Manager at LLC "Nordic Plast," will discuss solutions for enhancing packaging recyclability.
The second part of the event will feature a panel discussion where experts will address currently unclear issues in the industry, aiming to advance ideas and understanding among all stakeholders for plastic packaging recyclability and compliance with EU directives.
Participants in the discussion will include Rudīte Vesere, Dr. Sandra Muižniece-Brasava, Kaspars Zakulis, Director of LLC "Latvijas Zaļais punkts," Laura Bagātā, Communications Manager at LLC "Orkla Latvija," and Andris Trumars, Director of LLC "Nordic Plast." The panel discussion will be moderated by Jānis Krops, Head of Media Relations at Swedbank.
The seminar is intended for packaging manufacturers, retailers, waste management companies, environmental protection specialists, and other interested parties.
